Track & Measure Community Engagement

Maybe you’re sold on the benefits of listening and monitoring. You know what’s being said, and you’re ready to get out there and participate. But first you want a handle on how your community efforts are going to make an impact on your business. Look no further than a collection of Radian6 topic trend graphs and topic analysis widgets, and build yourself a community engagement dashboard to track your outreach and results.

Start with a simple topic trends graph around your brand or company topic profile, and keep a 30 day view of the buzz. Sort it by media type or language, and get a broad picture of the volume of buzz and where it’s happening over time. Take a closer look at peaks and valleys in the trend to see what might have affected the changes; new product announcements? Competitive buzz? A blockbuster event? You’ll start to see how your community reacts and responds to your brand and the industry.

Now build in a couple of topic analysis widgets focused on your brand as a part of your competitive landscape, and your share of conversation in your chosen industry or focus area. See how you’re stacking up in terms of online chatter versus the brands you come up against the most. And if you’re hoping to be mentioned and recommended as part of specific conversations, see if that’s happening and how much of the dialogue includes your brand.

If you’re out there and actively participating in social media conversations, you’ll want to keep track of that, too. Set up some analysis widgets to track your company-wide engagement. For starters, have a look at who on your team is handling the volume of posts and mentions:

Also take a look at things like sentiment over a 30 day period, engagement levels to see what percentage of posts you’re actively responding to, and perhaps track the classification of the posts coming through your profile. You’ll be able to get a solid picture of your activity, and see the impact of that outreach over time on your brand perception and volume of mentions across the social web.

Building an engagement dashboard will help you support and justify your community engagement efforts, identify where your attention should be spent, and start establishing a new set of metrics to quantify and qualify the time your company spends in social media.
