Stacking Up on Facebook
We recently published a post explaining our Facebook coverage and, while we understand that certain limitations still exist when dealing with this data, today we’d like to show you the best ways to track and manage a Facebook account with the Engagement Console. Let’s start at the beginning and go over the steps to connect a Facebook account to your Engagement Console.
When you first log in to the Engagement Console you may be prompted to connect your accounts. If you do not connect your account right away you can access this account connection information by working your way through the File menu to the “Accounts” dialog box.
In this dialog box you’re able to see both your Twitter and Facebook accounts. As you can see, I’ve already linked my Twitter account, so for example, let’s now walk through connecting my Facebook account.
To start, I’ll click the “Retrieve Facebook Account” button. Doing so will bring up this screen:
Now, I’ll enter the email address and password for my Facebook account. To keep my account logged in every time I open my Engagement Console, I’ll check the “Keep me logged in to the Engagement Console” box.
Next I’ll click the “Allow” option on this screen so the Engagement Console can access my Facebook information. Now we can see that my account is all set up and visible in the “Account” dialog box.
With all that taken care of, let’s look at the different stacks we can create.
Facebook Stack
Creating a Facebook stack will give you access to your personal Facebook account. You can create this stack by clicking the following button:
Doing this will create a stack where you can see your standard News Feed you would see when you log in to the web-based version of Facebook. If you prefer, you can create a custom feed with just the things you’d like to see.
Fan Page
The next stack that you can create is one to show a Facebook Fan Page.
You need to be an administrator of your Facebook Fan Page to create a stack for it in the Engagement Console. You can have a current administrator add you through the “Manage Admins” section of your Facebook Fan Page. Once you’ve gone through those steps and are an administrator of the desired Fan Page, click this button on the Engagement Console to build your stack:
You will be given this stack:
As you can see, all of the Pages on which you have administrative privileges are listed for you, and by selecting them you get a feed of the all posts available.
Radian6 Facebook Stack
The last stack you can create to help monitor Facebook is a Radian6 stack to pull any Facebook posts that match your Radian6 Topic Profile. Simply create a new Radian6 stack set to your Topic Profile filtered to the “Facebook” media type.
By monitoring these different Facebook stacks within the Engagement Console you’ll be able to start building a comprehensive view of your community on Facebook. We’d love to hear how our users are best managing their Facebook stacks and mentions, so be sure to give us a shout with your feedback!
