Social Media Learnings: Day 1 at #BWELA is in the Books!
A few Radian6ers including @ambercadabra, @davidbthomas, @melanieathomp, @jeffreylcohen, @mikegrad6 and @alsturgeon are currently at #BWELA blogging, speaking and engaging from our booth. Feel free to say hello if you’re out enjoying the conference. The following live blog is from @mikegrad6.
It was an exciting day at Blogworld filled with lots of sessions and networking. Everywhere you looked there were people to meet. In between sessions, Melanie Thompson and I wrote blog posts that can be found on this site. Now that I’m back at the hotel for the night, I decided to take a look at the social media stats from today to see what the buzz looked like.
On the first official day of Blogworld conference, attendees generated over 16,000 posts on the social web.
Taking a closer look at the conversations, I pulled a conversation cloud to see the words most commonly used. Perhaps unsurprisingly, a lot of the presenters’ Twitter handles showed up in the cloud as conference-goers live tweeted the panels and weighed in with their own insights and opinions.
Digging a bit further, we see that the Blogworld hashtag, #BWELA, was used 14,967 times today.

For those of you wondering what Twitter handles were responsible for driving the most conversations, I pulled the following insights widget.
The handles listed above represent those that received the most mentions throughout the day by conference attendees.
It was a full and exciting first day at Blogworld LA 2011 and tomorrow promises to be even more jam packed with the exhibitors floor opening. Make sure you come see us at the Radian6 booth!

Mike, do you make those widgets available for one-time purchase use on a particular event / hashtag? Fascinating to see how the use of hashtags make it so that people can pseudo-attend a conference by following the conversation!
