Putting a Ring on Social Media Engagement: A Meme Proposal

Earlier today, this post went up on BuzzFeed from Len Kendall asking his long time girlfriend (and employee of McDonald’s), Katie Holland, for her hand in marriage. He also asked readers to post their own images on the site to help him convince Katie to say yes. The meme carried over to Twitter with the #SayYesKatie hashtag as people threw their support behind the happy couple.
In a few short hours, the #SayYesKatie hashtag received almost 1,000 mentions. Here is a look at the most popular words used around the conversation.
There was no response from Katie’s personal Twitter account after the post went live, contributing to the suspense as people wondered what her response would be.

#SayYesKatie… seriously, before the suspense kills everyone on the @BuzzFeed team.

In the end, all the positive tweets seemed to have an effect, as Len and Katie proudly announced that she did, indeed, say yes, which led to even more conversation.
